It may not be a Silmarillion movie but we can at least say we are getting more Lord of The Rings. Amazon has reached a deal for the rights to produce a TV show based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. According to Deadline, the deal is said to be around a whopping $250 million and would include a multiple season agreement.
The show is said bridge the gap between the events from The Hobbit franchise and The Fellowship of The Ring. Here’s what the Head of Scripted Series at Amazon Studios, Sharon Tal Yguado, had to say about the announcement:
“The Lord of the Rings is a cultural phenomenon that has captured the imagination of generations of fans through literature and the big screen. We are honored to be working with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line on this exciting collaboration for television and are thrilled to be taking The Lord of the Rings fans on a new epic journey in Middle Earth.”
Clearly Amazon is going after the fantasy whole in our hearts that the end of Game of Thrones will leave in all of us.
No production, release date or cast has been announced but we’ll keep you posted when new information comes to light.
